17 Days
Learning Outside the Book
In California, students are required to complete 175 instructional days each school year. Based on the ELK Learning Academy schedule, we are approximately 17 days short of that requirement. However, we believe education does not happen only in the classroom.
Some of the most valuable learning experiences happen through activities beyond traditional coursework — physical education, Bible study, music lessons, sports, sewing, volunteer experiences, hands-on projects, community activities, and many other meaningful educational opportunities.
At ELK Learning Academy, these “outside-the-book” learning experiences help fulfill our additional 17 instructional days. Students and families will document qualifying educational activities completed outside of ELK’s scheduled instructional assignments.
To help track these experiences, students or parents will complete a 17-Day Learning Log. Once a student accumulates four hours of qualifying educational activity, one instructional day is considered complete.
Please do not record regular ELK instructional assignments or classroom work on this form. The log is intended for learning experiences not directly assigned through ELK, such as sports, music lessons, Bible study, sewing, clubs, enrichment activities, and other meaningful educational experiences.
